HUAWEI’S E-EDUCATION PROJECT SET TO TRANSFORM EDUCATION SECTOR IN TANZANIA

A leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, Huawei has announced its plan to introduce of e-education project for primary and secondary schools in Tanzania.

This was determined earlier this week, by Huawei officers during the tour of Tanzanian journalists who visited Huawei Headquarter and Baogang Primary School to witness the implementation of ‘Smart education’ project carried out by the company in Shenzhen, China.

According to Huawei’s International Media Manager MrSchlossglenn James said the project set to increase access to educational resources and improve ability of re-using and sharing of electronic resources.

“The project will provide remote learning solution with the latest ICT technology in order to provide teaching resource remotely and solving the problem of shortage of teachers in Secondary Schools,” he said.

Mr James said that since the company started to implement ‘Smart education’ project, the level of educational information in China has continued to improve, so he urged Tanzania government to opt e-education project as a solution to improve the level of education.

He said that the establishment of E-Education project in Tanzania will also help Students from rural and low income families to get the opportunity in accessing modern education, hence will help to create the opportunities and boost their economy.

He noted that the project will cover over 1000 secondary schools, more than 416,600 students will directly benefit from E-Education. Moreover, over 5000 teachers will be benefited from the ICT technology training program for the E-Education system.

“The establishment of such a project of education through ICT in primary and secondary schools will help to raise the level of education in the country as was proven in the ‘Smart education’ project initiated at a Baogang Primary School,” he said.

He said currently Huawei’s focus is on education sector where through these projects initiated, their expectation is to improve the level of education through ICT technologies for teaching and learning.

In these circumstances, Huawei has been transferring their skills to local staff in the country by using professional expatriates within Huawei. Current the company has launched the ‘Seeds for the Future’ program which focus on transferring knowledge to ICT students in various universities in the country.

Apart from that, Huawei strategies, is to broaden and improving ICT infrastructures with the aim to Build a Better Connect Tanzania to ensure the country reach its development Vision by the year 2020/2025.
