Vodacom Tanzania Plc, the Tanzania leading telecommunication network – has once again proved its innovation in the market by launching a E-Fahamu website which is aimed at offering teachers and students to get textbooks and supplementary books through online for free.
In addition, Vodacom in partnership with the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), has installed textbooks and syllabus which has been approved TIE to the E-Fahamu website, whereby over 80 textbooks, 1,020 supplementary books and 18 cartoons have been so far be published.
Speaking in Dodoma over the weekend during the launch of the E-Fahamu website, the Minister for Education and Vocational Training Prof Joyce Ndalichako commended Vodacom Tanzania for launching innovative website which will make students acquire reading materials for free something which will make them perform well on their studies.
‘As we all aware that the youth nowadays have interested on internet, now instead of browsing stuff that don’t suit them, Vodacom Tanzania has offered them an opportunity to acquire learning materials but the most interesting is that all the materials are for free which will make every student to have an opportunity of acquiring them’, said Prof Ndalichako.
The Minister acknowledged the efforts being made to reach many students and especially those at rural areas, which is being done by Vodacom Foundation in partnership with the Universal Communications Service Fund (UCSAF) in distributing computers and routers to secondary schools in the country.
‘So far, a total of 48 computers, 24 routers and Sim cards have been distributed to 24 secondary schools in the country being the first phase while the second phase is preparing to distribute 556 computers, 83 printers and 151 routers to 163 secondary schools,’ I take this opportunity to congratulate Vodacom to extending this donation to our secondary schools and especially those at rural areas said Prof Ndalichako.
The Minister said that she is confident that through E-Fahamu website, performance in schools will increase as now teachers and students will have a variety of reading materials of their choice. ‘I call Vodacom to continue increasing the number of textbooks and other materials to E-Fahamu website so as to offer an opportunity to teachers and students to have an access of as many materials as possible.’
Earlier, the Vodacom Foundation Rosalynn Mworia said that the E-Fahamu platform, which was previous named as Instant Schools has increased reading materials after partnering with the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) in order to get positive results for learners who are using English and Swahili languages.

Our aim is to use our communication network in improving the lives of Tanzanians through education sector. In addition, we have partnered with different education stakeholders including TIE and UCSAF to reach students in different secondary schools in the country. We have also partnered with the Vice-President’s Office (Environment) in creating learning materials for environment conservation so as to equip our students with environmental education’ added Mworia.
She said that the list of textbooks from TIE which teachers and students can acquire for both primary and secondary schools are Mathematics, Social Science, Science and Technology, Life Skills and Citizenship.
Standard Six books are for subjects of Kiswahili, English, Mathematics and Citizenship which have been approved by TIE while for Standard one and two are learning skills, writing and reading together with environmental health.
In addition, E-Fahamu will offer textbooks for Geography and History for secondary school students for Form One and Two while O level and A level are Applied Mathematics, Biology, General Chemistry, Physics and Kiswahili.
‘This is not the first time Vodacom is supporting the growth of education in the country. In the past, Vodacom in partnership with Samsung donated learning materials for TEHAMA to five secondary schools in Dar es Salaam where over 4,000 students benefited with the donation,’ added Mworia.
