Tanzania has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that may generate investments worth $7.49 billion (about 17.8 trillion shillings) and create 204,575 jobs in Tanzania over the next four years.
A total of 36 MoUs were signed today by the two governments and between private sectors from Tanzania and the UAE during the Tanzania Business and Investment Forum in Dubai, which was attended by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The agreements involve investments in energy, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, transportation, textiles, ICT, construction and other sectors in the country.
Among them, 12 MoUs were signed between the Tanzanian government and investors, while 23 MoUs were signed between Tanzanian companies and various investors seeking joint ventures or collaboration in various sectors of the economy.
In addition, one MoU was signed between Zanzibar's Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development and potential investors in the tourism industry.
Meanwhile, President Samia stressed the importance of strengthening education and skills development in Tanzania in order to attract more investments and develop advanced products.
“Today, I am urging the UAE government in particular and other countries taking part in the Expo 2020 Dubai to provide opportunities to Tanzanian students to study through scholarships and exchange programmes,” she said.
